The first Penguin paperback was published in 1935 by Sir Allen Lane (pictured) as a part of the publishers ‘The Bodley Head’. Penguin had a significant impact on Britain it revolutionised British publishing in the 1930s through its inexpensive paperbacks sold by many mass market businesses such as Woolworths.
